SVATOPLUK MIKYTA
Mikyta’s current artistic practice is related to the the analysis of the connection between digitality and analog techniques as well as to the themes of nature, up-cycling, re-cycling, the climate change and the antrophocene. Mikyta also explores the Central European identity in his previous works and criticizes, in a certain subversive way, different layers and forms of the complexity of this identity. Mikyta is engaged with the topic of collective memory because he works with found photographic material and reworks discovered photographs from old books or catalogues with the aim of creating a new aesthetic and new meaning for these images. He investigates and interprets the visual impact of images created under various totalitarian regimes in Eastern and Central Europe in the 20th century. But it also involves a subjective viewpoint, not only in the sense of a personal angle on historical phenomena as expressed through artistic handling, but also in the manner by which we retrospectively reengage with the aesthetics of the Soviet period today.
